Three Canadian scientists who have been working on the front lines of the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone will return to Canada Friday evening.

The Public Health Agency of Canada said it is re-calling the microbiologists because three people staying in the same hotel complex as they were have tested positive for Ebola.

The PHAC called the move precautionary and said other Canadian scientists will be deployed to west Africa when living conditions are deemed safe.

The three scientists work at the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg.

Upon arrival in Canada, the three workers will be met by a quarantine officer and staff from the Canada Border Services Agency.

If the quarantine officer deems them to be healthy, they will then be allowed to return to their homes where they will isolate themselves for 21 days, the incubation period for Ebola.

The PHAC called the move precautionary and said it is unlikely any of the three scientists are infected with Ebola.

They will be closely monitored by medical staff during the isolation period.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority said it has been made aware of the fact the three scientists are returning to Manitoba and has also taken steps to prepare in the event any other person shows symptoms of Ebola.

The WRHA said Health Sciences Centre has been designated as the only facility where suspected cases of Ebola will be treated.

The health authority also said it is working closely with other agencies including the province's public health branch and the office of disaster management.
