The Festival issued a call for help tracking down the 19-feet long logs, which were being used to rebuild the fort’s walls.

“These are not the kinds of thing you put in your pickup truck and walk away with,” said the festival’s Executive Director Ginette Lavack Walters.

Each logs weighs up to 400 pounds and would have been difficult to move, said Raymond Garand, site operations manager.

“All the logs that disappeared were along the fence,” he said. “So I’m thinking that they just reached over with some sort of a crane.”

Officials believe the theft happened between Friday and Monday morning.

“If they had the equipment I think they had,” said Garand. “It would have taken two hours, two and a half hours to do it.”

The logs, with their $10,000 value, are insured, but they will take a while to replace if they are not recovered.

“No one is in the bush right now cutting trees,” said Walters. “It’s too hot in the summertime.”
