Second-degree murder charge laid for killing of man, 24, on Long Plain First Nation

RCMP have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of a 24-year-old man on Jan. 2 on the Long Plain First Nation, southwest of Portage la Prairie.
Cody Alexander Schmidt, 21, of Long Plain faces a second-degree murder charge, said RCMP.
Officers said a dispute broke out between several parties outside a residence on Jan. 2 that led to the death of the 24-year-old victim from Portage la Prairie. Two men were also injured.
Two other people previously taken into custody have been released without charges, said police.
Police did not release the name of the victim.
RCMP said the cause of death is being withheld while the investigation continues.
