Shah Brothers Imports has issued a recall for its brand of Kalonji whole seeds due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Canadians are urged to check if the recalled product is in their home, and then to throw it out or return it to the store where it was purchased.

The product is sold nationally in Canada.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says food contaminated with Salmonella may not look for smell spoiled, but can still make people sick.

It says young children, pregnant woman, elderly and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk for contracting serious and sometimes deadly infections.

Symptoms for healthy people may include headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

No illnesses have been reported in connection to consuming this product.

The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.
