Residents of a seniors’ home had to leave in the middle of the night after the basement flooded with water early Sunday morning.

Pipe services on-site at the Golden Links Lodge Personal Care Home at 2280 St. Mary's Rd are pumping water out of the basement. Staff said the flooding was caused by a water main break.

There is no word yet on damages, but all electrical and mechanical equipment were stored in the basement.

"It's heat, light, power, water, computer system, everything is down there, so it will take some time to assess the level of damage and get the facility back up and running," said Lori Lamont, vice president of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

All 86 residents were taken to three different locations. Staff say arrangements have been made for the next 72 hours.

The water had almost reached the main floor of the building. Media were not allowed into the basement to see the extent of the damage.
