A four-vehicle crash closed part of Highway 2 Thursday evening.

Around 7:30 p.m., RCMP from Carman and Headingley were called to the intersection of Highway 2 and Provincial Road 248 in Fannystelle.

At this stage of their investigation, RCMP believe a southbound pick-up truck on the 248 collided with a semi-truck driving eastbound on Hwy. 2.

That caused a chain reaction that involved two other pick-up trucks on Hwy. 2. The semi ended up in the ditch and the other vehicles heavily damaged.

The southbound truck's driver, a 52-year-old man from Hadashville, was seriously hurt and went to hospital in critical condition. STARS air ambulance was called out to the scene.

No one else was injured.

Police do not believe road conditions or alcohol played a role.

RCMP remained on the scene for several hours and detoured traffic.
