A severe storm swept across southern Manitoba and with it came strong winds that knocked down trees and caused a lot of strikes and sporadic outages.

Environment Canada said the very electrical storm came in just before 7:00 p.m. Saturday.

Wind gusts in Winnipeg were reported up to 100 kilometres per hour and 22 millimeters of rain fell.

In Winnipeg, the worst of the storm was in the west.

In other parts of the province, like Gimli and Fraserwood, up to 95 millimeters of rain was recorded, causing flash flooding in some cases.

Environment Canada said there were reports of golf-ball-sized hail in Elkhorn, three hours west of Winnipeg.

Manitoba Hydro said they were dealing with sporadic outages across southern Manitoba.

There are still reports of outages in Steinbach and Portage la Prairie areas.

Manitoba Hydro hopes to restore power to these areas, but said it is very much weather dependent.
