Police identified the man killed in a Robinson Street assault on Friday as Phillipp Rick George Amos, 25, of Winnipeg. Examiners determined he died from stab wounds and blunt force trauma.

Police were called to the 100 block of Robinson Street in the North End around 4 a.m. Sept. 20, where they found two injured men.

Emergency crews rushed the first man to hospital in critical condition, but he died from injuries.

The second victim, a 38-year-old man, was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Residents in the area said they awoke to hear terrifying sounds.

“It was like a cry asking for help, screaming really loud for help. That’s pretty scary. It was a pretty scary scream, too,” said Georgina Spence.

A source told CTV News the man who died had forced his way into the townhouse armed with a machete.

Once inside, he was disarmed and attacked with the weapon.

CTV News has been told he came to the townhouse seeking out a convicted sex offender, a man who police are now looking for following the homicide.

Investigators wouldn’t comment on who was being sought in the investigation on Sept. 20.

“All I can say is that our investigators are speaking with people, trying to determine what’s transpired and hopefully I will have more information for you in the near future,” Const. Eric Hofley told reporters.
