Police have laid charges in a downtown shooting that sent one man to hospital in critical condition.

The incident happened just after 1:00 a.m. Thursday morning in a parking lot across the street from the Tavern United on Graham Avenue and Hargrave Street.

At the time of the shooting in the parking lot, police were already at the pub responding to a call about a fight.

“While officers were on scene, they heard shots a short distance away,” said Const. Eric Hofley from Winnipeg police.

Paramedics took a 20-year-old man to hospital in critical condition. The condition of the man shot was later listed as stable.

A witness told CTV News an argument between two groups of people started inside the Tavern and moved out into the parking lot, when shots were fired.

Police expressed concern over shots fired so close to a busy downtown location.

“When someone is willing to totally disregard the safety of others and discharge a firearm out in public like that there is concern,” said Hofley.

Keanu Algabre, 19, of Winnipeg faces charges of attempted murder using a firearm, along with several other firearms-related charges, said police.
