Early Saturday morning police responded to a report of a gunshot being fired at a suite of a residence in the city’s North End.

Officers and members of the Tactical Support Team responded to the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue around 1:45 a.m., where it was determined that three men had driven to the area at which time a shotgun was fired, police said.

Three people were in the suite at the time including an 18-month-old child. No injuries were reported, police said.

Const. Jay Murray said police don’t believe the suspects knew the victims.

“I think they thought they knew the people in the residence, but it was a new, young family that was living there and they were unintended targets,” said Murray. “Wrong house or right house it’s concerning.”

A witness told CTV that it was scary, and she heard someone ‘viciously banging on the door.’

The woman said there was a flash and a bang before she popped her head back in to call 911.

“I can imagine that they would be quite traumatized and shaken up,” Murray said of how the family likely feels.

Police said they located the three men a short time later along with a sawed-off shotgun.

Richard Denis Champagne, 47, Timothy Hiebert, 46, and Raymond Lorne Smith, 62, have been charged with numerous gun related charges along with discharge of a firearm with intent.
