A Winnipeg homeless shelter says a heritage designation could prevent it from expanding.

The city’s historical buildings committee recommends the Siloam Mission building on 300 Princess Street be given heritage status.

That prevents building owners from making changes to some of the building’s historical aspects.

Siloam officials are concerned that could increase the cost of their $30-million expansion plans, putting the project in jeopardy.

The city’s downtown development committee will vote on the file.
