A fire which destroyed the band office and Northern Store in Shamattawa, Man. has resulted in the arrest of a 12-year-old boy, RCMP said.

The Mounties said five other children under 12 were involved in setting the fire but can't be charged.

The fly-in community is located about 750 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

RCMP said officers responded to the fire just after 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Police and fire crews worked to put out the fire but it burned through the night, causing extensive damage.

RCMP said an investigation revealed six children were involved with setting the fire.

Five you can't be charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A 12-year-old boy who was charged was arrested and released on a promise to appear.

The Canadian Red Cross and Perimeter Aviation are sending a shipment of emergency supplies to the community.

The North West Company is also chartering a flight to deliver food to Shamattawa.  The company is working on finding a location for a temporary store.
