A brave group of Winnipeggers hit the streets in the Exchange District for an outdoor sleepout on a night when the low reached -26 Celsius by the next morning.

The goal is to raise money and awareness for programs run at Pan Am Place.

The transitional housing facility gives 18 to 25-year-old men at risk of homelessness a place to live.

A group of about 15 is sleeping outside on Arthur Street from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

They're looking to raise $20,000 for programming, operating costs, and gifts for the 27 men who live at the shelter.

So far, funds raised sit at $15,000.

"I manage a program for guys who have been in this situation, and for me personally, I'm trying to understand what they've been through, so I can improve my job and my understanding and be a little more empathetic to where they've come from," said Adam Jacobson, manager of Pan Am Place.

Donations are being accepted onsite at 88 Arthur St., online, or via pledge forms.
