Dozens of snowboarders and skiers marked their last runs of the year with a splash Sunday, taking plunge after plunge at the 2011 Slush Cup.

"We make a pond at the bottom of the bunny hill," says Heather Campbell-Dewar, co-owner of the Stony Mountain Ski Area. "The kids try and make their way across the pond until they get totally soaking wet and it takes until next season to dry out their gear."

Skier after skier hit the water at full speed Sunday afternoon, gliding across the pond or – if they're not so lucky – sinking into the knee-deep pond before wading back onto the snow.

The annual tradition was a bitter-sweet event for the participants, who are happy to see summer on the horizon.

"Sad and happy," says Tatianna Zammit. "I am kind of itching for summer but it has been a good season."
