A fire in a suite in the 2000 block of Portage Avenue on Tuesday was taken care of before crews arrived.
According to fire officials, tenants from the buildling used the fire extinguisher to extinguish the flames.
Two women suffered injuries in their efforts. One woman was sent to Grace Hospital with smoke inhalation, while the other was sent in unstable condition to Health Sciences Centre with smoke inhalation and burns.
There is no cause or damage estimate yet.
