Gord Steeves wants to fight crime in Winnipeg using drones.

The mayoral candidate says, if elected, he wants two unmanned aerial units to fly over the city when the police helicopter is out of service.

Steeves said the drones would only respond to incidents in progress and would only be allowed to do surveillance if a warrant was obtained.

He says each unit would cost $33,000.

The use of drones requires approvals from Transport Canada and the city's police board.
