A gas-station employee was taken to hospital following a violent early-morning robbery, Friday.

Two men, one armed with a weapon, walked into a store in the 1600 block of King Edward Street around 5:30 a.m.

The 38-year-old man who was working alone was forced to hand over cash and cigarettes to the men. They then fled, according to police.

The employee was then taken to hospital in stable condition where he was treated for minor injuries.

Officers used the canine unit to track down two suspects to the 1900 block of William Avenue West, where they were arrested. The stolen cash and cigarettes were then recovered, police said.

Two 24-year-old men from Winnipeg, Damon Ernest Nyiro and Michael McKenzie Graham Carriere are now facing multiple charges.
