A suspect charged with defrauding two women met on a dating site now faces additional charges after police identified four more alleged victims.

In September, police said the suspect met two women in separate cases on a dating website between Sept. 2 and Sept. 14.

“The investigation has revealed that the suspect would befriend the females for a period of time and gain their trust,” said police. “The suspect would then access the victim’s personal banking information and deposit fraudulent cheques, then withdrawing the funds via several ATM transactions.”

Officers said the suspect continued his crime spree over a period of time, including thefts involving vehicles, stolen licence plates and other property.

Police said the victims were defrauded of approximately $27,000. Officers did not disclose the name of the dating website.

Officers arrested a suspect on Sept. 29 in the 400 block of Osborne Street.

Kevin James Alderton, 37, of Winnipeg was charged with several offences, including fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

On Nov. 6, police announced new information had come to light, leading to Alderton facing additional charges, including more four counts of fraud under $5,000 and four counts of using a forged document.
