A man wanted in connection to a 2013 murder is in custody, police announced Saturday.

In the afternoon of April 2, 2013, 20-year-old Nigel Dixon was shot to death after he and a woman were accused of being gang members by a group on Langside Street. Police believe it was a case of mistaken identity.

A Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder and attempted murder was later issued for a 17-year-old suspect.

He was arrested in Vancouver on March 13 and returned to Winnipeg two days later.

"This suspect was obviously aware that the police were looking for him and was evading arrest," said Det. Sgt. Natalie Aitken of the Winnipeg Police Service.

The suspect was remanded to the Manitoba Youth Centre. Police are not looking for any other suspects.
