A crash between a bike and a vehicle sent one person to hospital Thursday morning and two people face charges following an attack against the driver.

It happened just before 8:00 a.m. at the corner of Manitoba Avenue and McNichol Street.

The cyclist, an adult female, had left the sidewalk of McNichol Street and entered the intersection at Manitoba Avenue when she was hit by a vehicle turning south onto McNichol Street, said police.

The woman hit was listed in unstable condition before later being upgraded to stable.

Two men arrived on scene shortly after the crash.

Police said the suspects kicked and hit the vehicle that collided with the woman. One man arrived with a baseball bat in hand.

It’s unknown if the two men have any relation to the victim.

“I’m not sure what would cause these two individuals to feel it necessary to go to these extremes,” said Const. Eric Hofley of the Winnipeg Police Service.

The driver remained in his vehicle and was not injured.

The two men were taken into custody and released on a promise to appear.

A 41-year-old man is facing a charge of mischief under $5,000 and a 19-year-old man is facing charges of uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief under $5,000.

So far, no charges have been laid against the driver of the vehicle involved, or the cyclist.
