Two men are in police custody after officers said a 14-year-old boy was pushed to the ground, punched, and robbed of his bike by three male suspects early Thursday morning.

Police said it happened around 12:30 a.m. Officers were in the River Heights area conducting a property crime project when they came across the boy near Lindsay Street and Wellington Crescent.

Officers noticed the three suspects a short time later in the Portage Avenue-Winston Road area. They immediately ran from police.

One suspect was then located in the 100 block of Winston Road, while another suspect was found in the 100 block of Cavell Drive. The stolen bike was recovered and will be returned to the boy, police said.

Charles Kaniki, 18, was arrested for robbery and failing to comply with a condition recognizance. He remains in custody, while another 18-year-old man was arrested for robbery and possession of a weapon. He was released on a promise to appear in court.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information can call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
