Winnipeggers ran, walked and biked today in the Terry Fox Run on Sunday.

Cancer survivors say Terry Fox's legacy continues to motivate them years after his epic run and death.

"I had cancer removed from my left leg, which of course was devastating, but I've been able to use his inspiration to remain really active,” said Brenda Krueger.“I've climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and cycled thousands of miles and I run marathons all the time."

Organizers say one of the reasons the Terry Fox Run is so popular here in Winnipeg and across the country is because Terry Fox connects with people in ways other runs and causes don't.

Around2,000 people participated this year's run. Organizers in Winnipeg say about $70,000 has been raised.

The run, organized by the Terry Fox Foundation, began in 1981 and to date has raised more than $650 million for cancer research.

Schools in Winnipeg will do their Terry Fox Runs Sept. 24.
