TORONTO - A day after The Tragically Hip announced lead singer Gord Downie has incurable brain cancer, the band revealed it will begin their last tour in late July.

Tour begins in Victoria, B.C. on July 22. The final date is on Aug. 20 at the band's hometown of Kingston, Ont.

The Hip will take the MTS Centre stage in Winnipeg on Friday, August 5.

Downie's doctor told reporters on Tuesday that the 52-year-old father of four has been cleared for the Canadian tour.

The neuro-oncologist says Downie was diagnosed after a seizure in December and has been receptive to treatment, suggesting he has a higher chance of longer-term survival.

The band says on its website it will begin the tour on the west coast on July 22 and play 11 shows in total. Tickets go on sale on June 3.

The group's managers say Downie is determined to "blow people's minds" on the tour.
