Thousands of people dressed in red and white showed up at Shaw Park to defend Winnipeg’s title for the largest Canada Day living flag in the country.

A total of 3,158 people turned out, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ said in a news release.

Other cities across Canada also hold living flag events on Canada Day, including Victoria,

Calgary, Regina, Brandon, Toronto, and Ottawa.

Including today’s participants, more than 20,000 Winnipeggers have taken part in the event since it started in 2011.

Winnipeg won the title in 2015.
