A report at city hall says it’s too expensive to renovate and house Winnipeg’s archives at the Carnegie Library.
A plan to upgrade the facility on William Avenue was ongoing in 2014, when the records were moved to temporary locations after a rain storm caused water damage in the building.
The report says it would cost $9.2 million to refurbish the historical site to keep the archives there.
Renovations were being done on the building's exterior with a plan to build a temperature-controlled vault and expanded program area inside.
It recommends the city find a cheaper alternative location to permanently store the records.
