Humphrey, the younger brother of Hudson, will soon be joining his sibling at Assiniboine Park Zoo.
The cub is just over a year old and zoo staff in Toronto say the move to Winnipeg will help him transition from a dependant newborn to an independent adolescent.
The move will be a challenge for the young bear but Humphrey has beaten the odds before.
With a birth weight of just 700 grams, he had to be raised by a team of veterinarians and animal care experts.
Humphrey has grown into a healthy one-year-old, well-known for his playful and curious nature.
The polar bear is due to arrive in Winnipeg in the coming weeks.
