The city announced it needs to close Transcona Boulevard for repairs, just days after it held a ribbon cutting ceremony to reopen it following a major upgrade.

The city says the street will close on Monday, Dec. 29 at 7 a.m. until Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 6 p.m.

Mild and wet weather has loosened the gravel surface, the city said in a news release. The work will replace the gravel with temporary concrete pavement, which will remain until the city can complete it in the spring.

Mayor Brian Bowman and city councillor Russ Wyatt held a ceremony to reopen the boulevard on Dec. 22.

While the reconstruction work is in progress, the city advises drivers to avoid the area.
