A jury has convicted Treyvonne Willis of first degree murder. He's sentenced him to life in prison.

Willis had no reaction as the jury foreman read out the verdict late Friday afternoon.

The jury began deliberating Thursday, and after a break overnight, announced a verdict around 5:40 p.m. Friday.

Willis confessed to police that he stabbed Kaila Tran 33 times in a St. Vital parking lot outside of her car to pay off a drug debt In June 2012.

Jurors wept as victim impact statements from Tran’s family were read in court by the Crown following the verdict.

The judge called the killing gruesome and shocking.

Willis is not eligible for parole for 25 years.

It’s unclear if he will appeal the conviction.
