The Burton Cummings Theatre has a storied past, and now, a bright future.

True North Sports and Entertainment took over management of the century-old building two years ago.

Now it's decided to invest more money into the historic venue - they're buying it outright.

"For the last couple of years we've been fixing," said Kevin Donnelly, Senior V.P. True North Sports and Entertainment. "And now we're looking at how to really develop and push this building to a higher level."

Fans at concerts will feel the difference.

The first few rows have been ripped out, and replaced with new seats better aligned to view concerts. The new seats also have more leg room.

True North has also added more stalls to the renovated women's washroom. And it has opened up a new bathroom on the lower level for men.

One of the biggest changes isn't visible to fans, but artists and performers will like it.

The green room has undergone one of the biggest transformations in the entire building. The dirty walls, once covered with graffiti, have been completely repainted and new furniture now fills the room.

"It was really important, and we hear rave reviews," said Donnelly.

From band members, promoters and people who were there when the Burt's future looked grim.

"The Burt is as iconic to Winnipeg as the Golden Boy," said former volunteer board member Danny Schur. "So the fact that True North has made the commitment, it's not just commendable. It's virtually saintly!"
