A man and woman are facing charges stemming from an altercation with a Mountie last month.

On March 20, 2015, a member of the Yellowhead RCMP pulled over a vehicle in Elphinstone, about three hours and 20 minutes northwest of Winnipeg.

The male driver attempted to speed away from the Mountie before pulling over and fleeing the vehicle on foot.

A woman and toddler were left in the vehicle.

The RCMP officer gave chase and an altercation ensued.

According to the RCMP, the suspect was able to escape and the Mountie was treated for minor injuries at the local hospital.

Mark Blackbird, 33, of Winnipeg was arrested and is now facing charges of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest among other charges.

He remains in police custody.

Kelly Ducharme, 30, of Elphinstone, is facing charges of providing false information to police.

She has been released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
