Charges have been laid against two suspects for the killing of a man on New Year’s Day.

RCMP were called to a residence on Black River First Nation, located about 140 km northeast of Winnipeg, around 2 a.m. on Jan. 1.

A man was found dead at the scene.

Officers identified the man as Peter Richard Bird, 25, of Black River First Nation. Family members previously said he also went by the name Peter Guimond.

Police said an investigation determined a confrontation at the residence led to the victim being stabbed.

Jason Moar, 20, and Brandon Bird, 21, face second-degree murder charges, said RCMP.

Police said the victim and accused knew each other.
