Community members in St. Boniface were outraged after it appears someone pushed over more than 20 headstones in a cemetery on Sunday.

Alice Boychuk found a slew of graves toppled over this morning on her regular morning walk. She said she was disturbed by what she saw.

“It’s a merciless thing that has happened. It is disheartening to say the least. It makes me feel as though no one is respected, even after death,” she said.

Boychuk would like the grounds to have better lighting and more supervision by staff to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen.

Vandals also struck the All Saints Cemetery in West St. Paul, damaging statues, a bench and windows.

Both cemeteries said the damage is sad and disrespectful.

Police are investigating the cases.
