VIA Rail has temporarily suspended passenger service on part of a Northern Manitoba route.

Wednesday evening, it announced a disruption between Churchill and Thompson due to flooding.

Service to communities between Thompson and Churchill is cancelled on trains 692 and 693.

Train 693 from Winnipeg to Churchill Wednesday, July 29 will only go as far as Thompson.

Train 692 from Churchill to Winnipeg on Thursday, July 30 will now depart from Thompson on Friday, July 31.

VIA will provide alternate transportation to passengers who have reservations on the affected trains travelling from Thompson to Churchill return.

The company warns further delays could happen once it knows the extent of the flooding.

VIA Rail is communicating with customers who have reservations on the impacted trains.

Customers wishing to cancel or change their date of travel may do so at no additional charge by calling 1-888-VIA-RAIL (1 888-842-7245) or 1-800-268-9503 (hearing impaired).

It cancelled the same route last August due to operational reasons and the Gillam to Churchill route last July after a derailment.
