Volunteers with JCI Winnipeg say it's time Santa has a new sleigh.

The current one being used in the Nov. 15 parade has parts dating back as far as 80 years. Volunteers say it's on its last legs.

Over the past few years, students from the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology have done repairs on the float, but JCI Winnipeg said it's time for a new more modern float with better lights and animatronics, so that the float moves.

JCI Winnipeg said the decision to raise money for a new float has only been confirmed in the last 24 hours.

MITT has agreed to do the work, but the group needs people to come forward to provide supplies like wood, steal and a new frame.

The final touches, such as lights, music and a tree, will be added this evening.

Winnipeg's Santa Claus Parade starts at 5 p.m. on Nov. 15.

JCI WInnipeg said it needs a lot of help for a new float for Santa. Anyone with fundraising ideas or can help can contact JCI Winnipeg.

More information on the parade is available online.
