SHERRIDON, Man. -- The wildfire situation in Manitoba is not as dire as in Alberta and Saskatchewan, but crews are battling blazes near Cormorant, northwest of The Pas, and Sherridon, northeast of Flin Flon.

Water bombers were being used Tuesday to battle the Cormorant blaze, which was close to roads and the railways.

Fire damaged the transmission line providing power to the community of Sherridon, but Manitoba Hydro expected to have the power restored soon.

The fire was about half a square kilometre in size and was also being fought with water bombers.

Dry conditions led to the cancellation of all burning permits in the region north of Flin Flon, while campfires will not be allowed between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. in Bakers Narrows, Wekusko Falls, Grass River and Clearwater Lake provincial parks.

As of Tuesday morning, six water bombers, 14 helicopters and more than 52 firefighters were working to address forest fires across Manitoba.

To date, 114 forest fires have been reported this year and 14 remain active.
