A report of a possible weapon brought the police Tactical Support Team down to the area of Adsum Drive and Streilein Crescent in The Maples.
Police said they have taken people into custody, but they are exercising extreme caution. No one was injured, police said.
Officers determined the area was safe, but they advised members of the public to stay away for the time being while they investigate.
