Winnipeg city hall is opening its doors to people who want to get married.

It announced Friday that it’s now taking applications for civil marriage ceremonies.

The city is also searching for the first couple to tie the knot inside the building.

City officials have invited couples to write in with a brief description of their story, including an explanation of why they want to be city hall’s first couple to get married.

The winners will have their marriage ceremony conducted at city hall, and the city will pay the $500 marriage fee.

Applications close Oct. 28.

The city voted in March to start allowing civil ceremonies at city hall for a $500 fee. For more information, visit the city’s website.
