What's open and closed in Winnipeg over the holidays

City of Winnipeg's holiday hours information:

All civic offices are closed at 12 noon on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 (Christmas Eve), closed on Thursday, December 25, 2014 (Christmas Day), and closed on Friday, December 26, 2014 (Boxing Day).

Civic offices will also be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2015 (New Year’s Day).

City of Winnipeg 311 services are always available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including throughout the holiday season.

Recycling/Garbage Collection

All customers (single-family homes, apartments, businesses):

• Recycling and garbage collection service as usual on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

• No recycling and garbage collection service on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Single-family homes – Adjusted collection schedule

For customers that normally have collection on Thursday or Friday, please put your recycling and garbage carts out one day later during the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s.

Let’s Chip In Christmas Tree Recycling Depots

Residents can recycle their real Christmas trees by dropping them off at any of the 11 Let’s Chip In depots, open from December 27, 2014, to January 20, 2015. Please remove all plastic tree bags, tinsel, decorations, and tree stands when dropping off your tree. Free wood chips will be available at all depots in early January (while quantities last). Please bring your own container to collect chips.

Trees placed beside recycling or garbage carts will not be collected.

Take a Free Ride New Year’s Eve and Celebrate Safely!

Take a free bus ride this New Year’s Eve starting at 7:00 p.m. until end of service. The last buses leave downtown at approximately 1:38 a.m. The free ride offer is sponsored by Manitoba Public Insurance and applies to all Regular and Handi-Transit Service.

Leisure Centres

Wednesday, December 24 - All Leisure Centres will close at 12 noon except St. James Civic Center. St. James Civic Centre is open until 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, December 25 - All Leisure Centres closed

Friday, December 26 - All Leisure Centres closed

Wednesday, December 31 - All Leisure Centres are closed except for Fort Rouge Leisure Centre and St. James Civic Centre. Fort Rouge and St. James Civic Centres are open from 6:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
