Heavy rains have damaged roads in the Whiteshell and the province has advised residents to evacuate in some areas.

Officials are contacting cottage owners in Block 5, Caddy Lake and cottage owners east of Block 9 on PR 312. There is no vehicle access south of the ambulance garage on South Shore Road in Falcon Lake, the province said in a news release.

Provincial Roads 408, 301 and Highway 44 were also washed out.

Bruce Morrison, chief of the South East Whiteshell Fire Department, said almost all roads in the area had been damaged in some way by the storm.

He said Highway 44 between Rennie and West Hawk Lake is closed. Although they are letting some local traffic in, he warns drivers that if the roads collapse, they will be stranded.

The province says the road to Florence and Nora Lakes is also washed out, and the Mantario Trail is closed.
