WINNIPEG -- Richie Hall has been named defensive co-ordinator of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

He succeeds Gary Etcheverry who was fired in December.

Hall held the same job with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the last four seasons.

Under Hall, Saskatchewan's defence gave up the fewest touchdowns and led the league in interceptions the year the Roughriders won the Grey Cup in 2013.

Hall was also defensive co-ordinator for the Roughriders when they won the Grey Cup in 2007.

The 54-year-old from San Antonio, Texas, was an all-star defensive back in the CFL in the 1980s.
