Two city councillors say the illegal dumping of trash is still a problem in Winnipeg and they want technology to catch people in the act.

Devi Sharma and Ross Eadie say a two-year pilot project is needed that would see security cameras installed at trouble spots.

In a motion to city council, the councillors say that commercial and residential dumping is difficult to prosecute without visual evidence.

Two years ago the city raised fines for illegal dumping. The City also replaced autobins, that attracted a lot of renovation garbage and furniture, with the smaller automated garbage carts.
