A Winnipeg doctor is serving up Manitoba dishes out of a food truck to raise money for a trio of local hospital foundations.

On Wednesday, gastroenterologist Dr. Christopher Schneider and business partner Mike Cesario launched their mobile eatery, called Little Truck on the Prairie.

They plan to donate 10 per cent of the proceeds to foundations for the Grace Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, and Seven Oaks General Hospital. The truck is set up this week for one day in front of each medical centre.

“I’ve had the privilege of travelling and living in different countries. I have seen the amazing foods they serve and the pride they have in their local fare. I decided that when I came back home, I would to do the same for Manitoba. This is a first step in putting Manitoba food on the map,” Schneider said.

Schneider and Cesario are serving locally-sourced dishes highlighting Manitoba food. Cesario is head chef and created the menu, which includes Manitoba pickerel tacos and Bothwell grilled cheese sandwiches with a side of onion bacon jam.

“I’m really looking forward to putting out my take on great street food while showing off all the incredible flavours that come from this very province,” Cesario said.

The truck will be at Grace Hospital Wednesday, Health Sciences Centre Thursday and at Seven Oaks General Hospital Friday.
