Allexis Siebrecht has been waiting for a liver donor since her 11th birthday last October.

Siebrecht has a rare disease that affects her liver, and a rare O-blood type that narrows her options for a match.

"I just hope that someone will come soon and will be able to be a liver donor so I can just get better, and have my new liver soon," said Allexis Siebrecht.

Her doctor spotted signs of end-stage liver disease in December.

Now, five months later, time ticks for Siebrecht’s medical team to find a donor.

Allexis' mom, Liz Siebrecht, said she talked to Toronto General Hospital on the phone Thursday, and was told donor applicants continue to come forward.

"(The doctors) have been testing some people that they are hoping will best suit Allexis,” said Liz.

Meanwhile, at Toronto General Hospital, billionaire NHL Ottawa Senators team owner Eugene Melnyk recovers from surgery after a liver transplant.

His family publicly thanked the anonymous donor at a press conference Thursday.

"You are an incredible person and we truly admire your unselfish act of kindness and courage,” said Ken Villazo, Melnyk family spokesperson.

Melnyk was dying of a liver disease.

After making a public plea, more than 500 willing donors came forward, including one match, which led to surgery in less than five days.

Some people, like University of Manitoba Ethics Professor Arthur Schafer, said his fame saved his life.

"It’s concerning because it's unfair…if Mr. Melnyk were not the owner of the Ottawa Senators…I think he would be waiting until he died,” said Schafer.

Toronto General is the same hospital where Allexis Siebrecht may have surgery for her own transplant, but her wait is already months long.

"Even though she gets better, she still needs a new liver and the wait still continues," said Liz Siebrecht.

A GoFundMe page to help with Siebrecht's medical expenses sits at $15,000 dollars, while her mother tries to get the attention needed to find a living donor.

The family is also hosting a Bud, Spud & Steak Fundraiser on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
