Winnipeg Jets Fan Fest activities went ahead on Saturday despite a power outage.

The Jets expected thousands of fans to turn out on Saturday for the kickoff event for their new season. Fans began lining up early, as the first 3,000 fans received a free pancake breakfast, starting around 9 a.m.

"We had to put our Fan Fest a little bit on delay," said Jets spokesperson Scott Brown.

The pancake breakfast went on as planned. "All of our activities in the parking lot here are still very much busy and were still hoping people can come down and enjoy."

The outage affecting customers in the west Perimeter area started around 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Hydro crews were able to restore power to about half of the affected customers around 5:30 a.m., but the circuit that includes the Iceplex remains without power, Hydro spokesperson Scott Powell said.

Power was restored at the Iceplex around 8:40 a.m.

The outage was caused by a broken cross arm on a Hydro pole, in a difficult-to-reach spot north of Saskatchewan Avenue.

Hydro crews need to get special equipment to access the site, and then it should take around an hour and a half to fix once crews can get in, Powell said.
