A man accused of ramming his vehicle into multiple police cruisers will face jail time.

24-year-old Wayne Rennie faced a dozen charges after five police cars were damaged on July 20, 2015.

He made a guilty plea, and was found guilty on December 10, 2015 on charges of mischief to property, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and fleeing a police officer.

A judge sentenced Rennie to nine months consecutive custody for the assault and flight charges, totaling a year and a half in jail.

He also received an additional year of jail time for the mischief charge. A judge credited him seven months for time already served.

Winnipeg Police say a suspect swerved into oncoming traffic on Highway One in front of a police cruiser while he led officers on a chase on July 20, 2015.

Police say the cruisers sustained between $80,000 and $100,000 worth of damage.

Rennie was also hit with numerous fines and a driving prohibition of two years.
