A Winnipeg man wants Canada to send ground troops to Iraq to protect families just like his, in his former country.

ISIS has heavily targeted the Yazidis people who are a religious minority living in northern Iraq.

More than 200 Yazidis families live in Winnipeg.

One man said his family fled their home in Iraq and wants Canada to use military intervention to fight the growing threat.

“They're close to us, and maybe they will kill more Yazidis people,” said Samer Hussein.

Currently, Canada is strictly playing an advisory role. The country is part of the U.S. led core-coalition of 10 countries helping to fight the extremists.
