A Winnipeg mother is asking other parents to fight proposed changes to their kids’ school.

The changes would see George Mcdowell School switch from English to French immersion next year.

If that happens her daughter will not stay at George Mcdowell and will have to bussed to an English school further away said Nikki Sherwin.

Sherwin started a petition and already has more than 50 signatures.

“One voice can be heard but a community of voices will be listened to. So if I can get a community of voices we’ll be heard and listened to” said Sherwin.

The Assistant Superintendent for the Louis Riel School Division told CTV News six of the English schools in South St Vital are below capacity while the two French immersion schools are bursting at the seams.

The Division is exploring long term solutions to its’ low enrolment concerns.

Community forums at the affected schools begin this week and will continue through to November.
