A Winnipeg mother is warning parents to check candy carefully after finding a sewing needle in a chocolate bar.

Jennifer Tichborne took her children and nephew trick-or-treating in the West End on Halloween.

She said they stayed between Sargent and Wellington Avenues, going down streets from Strathcona to Clifton, and Dominion to Garfield.

Tichborne checked all the children’s candy when she got home, but missed the Aero bar with the needle.

She said her daughter noticed something off about the candy, and broke it in half to find the sewing needle.

“You can tell that something like this doesn’t just accidentally happen. Somebody was targeting to hurt somebody’s child,” said Tichborne.

Tichborne said she did a second check of all the children’s candy after the needle was found.

She doesn’t know which house the chocolate came from.

Tichborne reported the incident to police and plans to hand over the candy and needle.

“If you don’t want to give out candy and you’re not feeling the Halloween spirit, close your doors turn off your lights and don’t take part in it,” said Tichborne.

The incident is similar to one last Halloween in North Kildonan, when a mother found a sewing needle inserted into a chocolate bar her daughter got while trick-or-treating.
