The Winnipeg Police Service is throwing its cap into a Canada-wide police rap battle.

Detachments across the country have re-written lyrics to rap songs to promote safe winter driving as cold conditions set in.

It began when RCMP in Kindersley, Saskatchewan posted “Ice, Ice Baby” lyrics they rewrote to be about icy road conditions.

The post on Facebook and Twitter took off, and police forces across the prairies to replied.

The Winnipeg Police Service answered the call on Tuesday with a rendition of “Push It” by Salt N Pepa.

The lyrics warned drivers “don’t push it” and “get those winter tires on – or ya destined for the ditch.”

WPS declined a request to sing the lyrics.

Police in Edmonton, Moose Jaw and Calgary have also released lyrics about driving safe in snow and ice.

Vancouver Police stepped into the ring with a version of “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer written about rain instead of snow.
