A Winnipeg police officer, who was facing 34 drug, theft and weapon related charges, died Monday after colliding with a gravel truck.

CTV has confirmed the deceased is Const. Trent Milan.

RCMP responded around 10:30 a.m. to a two-vehicle collision on Garven Road, between Provincial Road 207 and Pine Ridge Road.

Police said an eastbound pickup truck collided with a westbound gravel truck.

The 42-year-old male driver of the pickup truck from Oakbank was pronounced dead on scene, police said.

“The road conditions are dry and it is sunny," said RCMP spokesperson Tara Seel. “In terms of cause of the collision we are going to wait for our traffic analyst to do his job and provide a report on exactly what happened."

Police said alcohol was not believed to be a factor  in the collision.

Garven road remains closed as RCMP continue to investigate.

The location of the crash is roughly 20 kilometers outside of Winnipeg.
